is it possible at all to decrypt iphone 6 backup if password is forgotten?
Found this https://
thank you.
swordfish,
There are any number of commercial tools, including Elcomsoft's, which will perform a "brute force" attack against the iTunes backup password file. Of course, the shorter the password and the more your client knows about the password contents, the easier things will go. Otherwise, you could be looking at an extended time frame to brute force an unknown and complex password.
Have a look at recoverlostpassword(dot)com for a cheaper alternative.
I've had some good success with Passware cracking iTunes backup passwords, however as Mark pointed out they are brute force cracks so it can take a long time.
Thank you very much for your reply. Is there any company that would have any other special tool to crack the password? I have been running the password recovery software for some time now and its taking a long time and so far only doing 4 characters combination. if the actual password is 8 letters then it may take months?
Thank you

JFYI, and generally speaking, among the "good features of a "bruteforce" password related software is the ability to follow a "pattern", as Mark_Eskridge hinted before, the more you know of the password the more you reduce the area that needs to be covered by the tool.
As an example, knowing that only only CAPITAL letters and numbers were used and that the password was 6 characters in length makes the number of needed attempts up to 36^6 if only numbers were used, that would make 10^6, the whole "range" can be as much (including small letters and symbols) as 95^6.
This should give you an idea of how much every single partial information on the password might be of use
95^6=735,091,890,625
36^6=2,176,782,336
10^6=1,000,000
Usually people, even if they cannot remember exactly a password do remember some parts of it, knowing what a single character in a given position was reduces from
95^6=735,091,890,625
to
95^5=7,737,809,375
let's say from 2 years to 1 week….

Go with Elcomsoft's Phone Breaker. Not only does it break abckup passwords, but it also collects data from iCloud backups in the cloud.

I do not work for Elcomsoft.
As far as i know Passware tool supports accelerated password recovery with multiple computers, NVIDIA & AMD GPUs and you can customize your attacks. So it will for sure speed up password recovery process.
You should try MFC Dongle to unlock the iCloud ID more stable. http//
