We need you to provide an effective technical and administrative support to the Digital Forensics Unit operating solely in a new digital forensic lab area incorporated within the unit.

You will be responsible for maintaining a secure equipment and exhibits store, receiving and controlling the movement of all exhibits and ensuring compliance in the lab with ISO 17025 accreditation standards. This will include maintenance and control of all equipment used within the lab itself and by digital forensic staff out at crime scenes. You may be required to conduct basic triage of certain exhibits using forensic tools and will assist in the imaging (acquisition) of hard drives. You must therefore have physical and emotional resilience to regularly deal with abusive and offensive imagery of extreme violence, obscenity and depravity. You will also manage the devices sent for destruction including administering and maximising and opportunities for Income Generation.

The ideal candidate will come with a good knowledge and expertise of common operating systems and applications, together with an aptitude for problem solving, in a methodical and orderly manner.

You will already have a relevant professional qualification in a computer based subject or related experience and expertise in a technical environment. You must be prepared to successfully complete the core courses in relation to the recovery and analysis of digital evidence, as specified by NPCC.

This role incorporates a range of technical skills, to succeed in this role you will need a good working knowledge of relevant computer systems and must be prepared to complete further training.

This is a very challenging and demanding role and you will be required to undergo regular Psychological Assessments. In addition, you must be prepared to work flexibly to suit the need of the unit and travel for business purposes.

The successful candidate will be subject to personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment.

This is an 18.5 hour post working Thursday, Friday and alternate Wednesdays.
