Dear Fellow Professionals 🙂
I readily admit that I'm new to the Forensics arena. However it is a
field of growing personal interest. I was hoping that you might be able
to inform me where I can obtain practice exams for the CHFI.

I was looking through the site for this exam and noticed under data duplication they have these listed
Tool: R-Drive Image
Tool: DriveLook
Tool: DiskExplorer for NTFS
Just found those odd choices.
I recently had the opportunity to peruse the CHFI materials with a view to obtaining the associated certificate. My advice - don't bother. The content is a joke - it looked like it had been written and produced by 6 year olds.
The materials are apparently produced in Malaysia. Not sure if the problems are down to the translation or whether the actual content was poor to begin with (I think a bit of both). I am surprised that anyone could seriously recommend this course/certification.
If you want to get an idea of the standard of these materials, visit
Good to know I am not alone. I have experience with a number of forensic tools but wanted a qualification that showed I had a good all round knowledge of the field. The chfi self study guide and exam seemed to suit my needs. When the materials arrived my heart sank as I read through the folders. I would describe them as amateurish, repeptitive, contradictory and unintelligable. I tried to get a refund but was basically told where to go. Needless to say I did not go ahead with the exam. I am out of pocket but at least I didn't fork out to go on one of the chfi training courses that cost about £3000. Still an expensive mistake though.
Why not just go for the CCE? It is longer established and well respected and the printed material has been well proof-read. You can just take the exam if you have the knowledge already or study at the boot camp or over the Internet. Either way you get a tutor assigned to help, all the knowledge required to pass the exams, most of the software needed and plenty of practice on the praticals.
I'd second the view on the CCE course.
I also bought the CHFI course last year and was not impressed with it.
I have been doing the CCE course through distance learning for the past few months and the material and support is excellent.

Neil,
Would you mind expanding a little on your experience with the CCE distance learning course? What is it about the material and support which you like?
Many thanks,
Jamie
P.S. I find myself not far geographically from you at the moment…down in Fife!
