New web browser

Post Posted: Sep 03, 06 17:37

I've been watching these forums for a while, as I want to move my career over from IT support to security and forensics.

I've not seen anything on these boards about a new web browser that has been released with user privacy in mind, which will make the job of a forensics investigator more difficult, if the program does what it says!

The program is called browzar and it's just an exe that doesn't need to install and it says it leaves no traces of user activity behind!

It's another tool that is useful for some but open to abuse by others.

Hope this helps and hopefully when I get more experienced and hopefully qualified, I'll be posting more here!

A quick look shows a lot going on during installation: InCtrl5 shows 15 registry keys added, 6 folders added, 3 files added, and 16 files changed upon "installation". Closing up leaves a lot of that stuff there - I didn't check it all. I'm not diving in too deep, but of the files changed - alot of index.dat files. When I'm back into work on Tuesday I'll take a deeper look at those files - but I can tell you that with what I've seen here I could make the finding that the owner of the computer was using a browser designed to hide all traces of user activity.

Thanks for that. I've added that tool to my collection, I did a few manual checks before but InCtrl5 looks good!

As you can see, I'm still learning! (And there's a long way to go!)
