FTK dongles not transferable w/o current maintenance?

I have been trying to find an FTK dongle to use for V1.8, and there are occasionally a few available here or other places. I checked with FTK in preparation for purchase of one, and was told that the license is not transferable unless the maintenance is up to date. That's a real pain, since most of the ones for sale on the market have lapsed because the owner is no longer using it. Anyone else have useful knowledge on this? Is there a workaround? Thanks!

That's not true.

Maybe they mean its not transferable unless you UPDATE the maintenance. But I've never seen a sale here, at a convention, conference, Ebay, etc. where the sale couldn't be completed because the dongle itself wasn't upgraded.

I've got I believe 3 sales from this forum alone and along with a letter of sale, no one has had any problems.

What you hear from one person there you find that you hear something totally different from another.

Pricing for example. Ask one person about pricing on an update and they say blah blah, ask for a break they say no. Get a different salesperson or someone in corporate and low and behold the fee is dropped down. Or discounts for multiple dongles.

Not a ploy to sell the dongle, it will sell itself as the price of FTK continues to go up and people want to get into the business. Plus there are enough people who try to block sales with their posts or additions to your ads.

I bought an FTK dongle from someone I knew, and I was required to bring the support contract back up to date. In that case, I had to back pay over a year of the support agreement as well as pay for another year from that point. Therefore an out of date dongle could cost you more than one with a current support agreement, but as far as I'm aware, there is no limitation on the transfer just because it's out of date unless things have changed.

You can read the EULA HERE and interpret for yourself.

I purchased an expired dongle via this forum and chose to coordinate with AccessData and the seller to get the maintenance current, despite my having little intention to use FTK beyond 1.81.x at that point.

I did not want to have issues proving to anyone that I was the legitimate owner of the license. I was pleased with the arrangement AccessData worked out with me.

I agree with Forensicakb that everyone says something different. It is best to find out for yourself what is right and legal, and do that if you are the type to follow the rules.
