Forensic Computing Graduate - Career Advice

Post Posted: Jul 09, 13 15:50

Hi, I am hoping someone may be able to offer some career advice.

I recently graduated in 2012 with a 1st Class BSc (Hons) in Forensic Computing and have worked for 10 years+ in IT Technical support.

Unfortunately, I am finding it extremely difficult to get my first opportunity within forensics. I am looking to find any organisations who may be willing to recruit a forensic's graduate, or anyone who may be able to help me gain some commercial experience.

If anyone could offer any help or advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I am currently based in Manchester, UK although would be happy to relocate.

Many Thanks.

Join the military, get a clearance, and you will be able to get a job inside the wire for 100-125K GBP.

Great advice as long as you're a big fan of sand.

I take it then you applied for one of the two jobs going at Greater Manchester Police's HTCU that were posted on here?

UCD's digital forensics MSc graduates are in demand and employers in Ireland often ask us to circulate opportunities. One employer told us there was going to be a need for 350,000 infosec people worldwide and that the talent pool is currently far too small. So stick with it! Law enforcement is recruiting BSc forensics graduates but then they need to give them practical hands-on training. Monitor the relevant LinkedIn groups where I often see openings.

Hi rasool It is a good career path. Listings for cyber security positions rose 73 percent in the five years through 2012 – 3.5 times faster than postings for computer jobs overall
usat.ly/11xTkgn I am preparing a list of sources of info on jobs and careers in this area and will put it out there soon. Meantime Forensic Focus and other LinkedIn groups post jobs. Join some forensics groups.
