I have one of these that i need to get data from, does anyone have any experience with this? I have tried a couple of open source tools but they did not work very well.

I guess it depends on which watch it is.. but were you able to get the ANT stick with the it? (That should allow you to download the runs to a computer)… Sometimes the watches will communicate through Garmin Connect - I think you can register it or have Garmin support unregister it so you can setup a new account by emailing them.

My wife uses her watch all the time and Garmin has a nice software display on the computer that would show you a very detailed map.

Hope that helps,

Adam

Does the memory mount when the device is attached to a computer. In the past I have had sat nav systems off bikes, imaged them first then 'synced' it with the specific garmin software for that device in my case it was 'Garmin Training Centre', I then used that software for my analysis.

Once you are done retain a copy of the profile from windows app data or
Users/$user/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Training Centre/TrainingCentre.gtc' on a mac.

With this file you can re look at the data another time by reinjecting the profile rather than forensically restoring the device and doing it all over again everytime.

In my experience, when I 'synced' the data stayed on the device but I do not know if this is true of every device.
