Connected cars in a cluster of the same brand may help to optimize the respective car services but what occurs as a forensics evidence opportunity by all-brand-connected cars like NIVs?

How do we investigate having a car in Austria the investigation of a terror car accident in Norway? Today the datacenters of car manufacturers are not part of any investigation. But they are the cloud we newly face. Car makers are very, very closed to any requests from outside as they have their own R&D and CARINT.

What are the forensics evidence demands on CARINT of NIVS? Only the one which can ask clear questions has the chance to get closer to the silver bullet.

The more we here invest in car forensics we discover its potential. A car has tremendous intelligence and uses it for decisions. But they are Data-in-Use and not Data-at-Rest. Logging occurs silently and invisible at car manufacturers DCs. They know the drivers driving-style and timeline-related emotional and physical conditions.

Data can be used in a positive and negative way for the one who wants to get an advantage out of it, in LEO either the suspect or the court.

Short story A Tesla driver was caught by police of driving too fast. He requested the data from Tesla to prove against. He won. How did the court prove the data consitency and authenticity of the data? It did not. The court just trusted Tesla.

CARINT from car manufacturers DCs is Next BigThing of digital forensics.

How do you get access to protected ECUs? Encryption in cars will come more and more.
