Encouraging more job vacancy postings from the USA

We've noticed that while our Job Vacancies board is quite busy, the majority of our listings come from companies in the UK, and sometimes other parts of Western Europe.

I'm sure there are digital forensics vacancies available elsewhere - in the USA, for example - but they don't seem to make their way onto our forum with the same level of frequency.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be, and what we could do to encourage more submissions from the USA and other countries? Are there any recruitment agencies we should be reaching out to?

Because this is viewed as a place to come with questions and the job forum is 4th or 5th from why most people come here?

Cell
General
Services
Wanted/Sale
Jobs in USA

IMHO.

Most people already have jobs (seems like for LE) and have no need to look for other jobs.
Those people who work in the private sector, look at the available job postings, but they usually want something more than a CF guy. Companies here in the US want someone who does everything and may not be an expert in any one discipline, but can be paid like an expert in one field.

Thanks for the reply. I think you're absolutely right that job vacancies are not the primary reason for visiting the site for most of the Forensic Focus readership (although I'd probably move them one or two places up the list) but what Scar is highlighting is the discrepancy between UK and non-UK vacancies which seems odd given our broad international audience. More specifically, the greatest number of visitors to Forensic Focus come from the US and the UK but the job forum is dominated by UK recruiters posting UK vacancies - I can't imagine that there is a greater number of digital forensics positions in the UK so the question remains why do we see so few US vacancies listed Is there a fundamental difference between the way vacancies are advertised in the US and the UK? For example, is the UK market predominantly served by recruitment agencies whereas in the US their use is less common?

All thoughts and ideas very welcome!

I can't imagine that there is a greater number of digital forensics positions in the UK …

Actually I can, even if it may seem surprising.

Of course only as seen from the outside.

I have had the impression that UK tends to have (or look for) digital forensic "specialists" and enroll them in the Police, while in the US (and most probably in a lot of other countries[1]) the path is the other way round, you first become a cop/policeman and only later become a digital forensics specialist.

For the private sector, it seems to me like quite a few positions are more related to financial services, like pen-testers, digital security etc, and for "corporate digital forensics" /e-discovery and similar) and since London is the center for *anything* related to banking and large corporations in Europe, including the local branches of US international companies it is not-so surprising that a lot of ads are comuing from UK.

I would be curious to make some stats about how many are London (or near London) based and how much are non-London.

[1] As a single data point, in Italy members of the Polizia or of the Carabinieri (or of other police related corps such as the Guardia di Finanza) are not "procured", there are periodical public concourses.

Again I don't really disagree with any of that, and certainly the UK vacancies are heavily centred around London exactly as you would imagine, but I still find it difficult to believe that London so comprehensively outweighs the combined DF markets of New York, Washington DC etc etc. Perhaps it does!

Interested in other US perspectives on this if anyone feels like chiming in.

I think something you might be missing about NY, DC, VA, and that area is having a clearance. There are TONS of jobs from just imaging hard drives all the way up to training LE, FLE, etc. but they want you to already possess this clearance.

OK, that certainly sounds like it might be a difference when compared with the majority of UK vacancies but I suppose I'm still left with the question…why are those vacancies not being listed here? (assuming for the moment that Forensic Focus is on at least some recruiters' radars in the US and our readership is a suitable target audience). In other words, why would someone tasked with filling those roles not want to post them here (for free), stipulating that clearance is required? Are there rules which state those vacancies can't be published publicly, for example, or at least not via previously approved channels? Or is it that recruitment agencies (from whom we see the majority of UK listings) are less common in the US, with larger companies typically using their in-house HR departments to recruit?

I know it sounds like I'm probably overthinking this but I can't shake the feeling I'm missing something obvious -)

The good news are that we have two new job offers from the USA
https://www.forensicfocus.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=16429/
https://www.forensicfocus.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=16428/

The bad news seem to be that they were posted in
Forums > Employment and Career Issues Forum
https://www.forensicfocus.com/Forums/viewforum/f=19/
instead of the "normal"
Forums > Digital Forensics Job Vacancies Forum
https://www.forensicfocus.com/Forums/viewforum/f=8/

Thanks for pointing that out, I've now moved them (I'd actually seen both earlier and added the country to their subject lines but didn't notice they were in the wrong forum! oops )
