West Midlands Police are seeking an experienced Digital Forensics Technical Manager (Team Leader) to join an established Forensic Services department in Birmingham. This role is offered on a full time permanent basis.

Here at West Midlands Police, we serve almost 2.8 million people – making us the second largest Police Force in England. We’re in the middle of radically overhauling all aspects of the business with WMP2020 - a modernisation plan that’ll change the way we operate.

As the Digital Forensics Technical Manager (Team Leader) you will:

Be both a leader of people and a technical expert with hands-on experience in a forensics environment
Lead a team of Police Officers and staff conducting intelligence led digital forensic investigations on a wide range of digital devices, providing evidence and expert interpretation of the evidence in a secure format acceptable to the court
Prioritise, task and coordinate the work of your team ensuring that standards are adhered to
Supervise your team, playing a key role in mentoring, development, quality and performance alongside supporting their wellbeing in challenging role
Manage the gate keeping procedure for Digital Forensic submissions
Provide advice and guidance regarding all aspects of computer forensic examination to specialist departments
Be supported and supervised by the Digital Forensics Manager and be part of a large dynamic department working closely with team members with commentary experiences and specialisms


The ideal candidate for this role will:

•Have a digital background with experience in a forensics environment
•Be experienced in computer examination including laptops, workstations, memory cards, games consoles and cameras
•Have substantial demonstrable experience in dismantling computers whilst maintaining accurate records and the identification, removal and safe handling of key components
•Have substantial demonstrable experience of preparing analytics and reports for the purpose of presenting evidence to the CPS and Courts
•Be conversant with ISO 17025 standard and APCO Principle of Digital Evidence
•Have demonstrable experience of managing a team
•Have excellent communication skills
•Be able to demonstrate excellent IT skills
•Be able to demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving
•Willingness to undertake work and handle material that may be offensive or distressing
•Have a full UK Driving Licence
