Hi,

I have to bookmark around 18000 Adobe Documents in FTK 4.0, i work on HFS+ evidence file in e01 format. I wait for it almost 8 hours for creating bookmarks (it says 'Processing Items…') and it's not done yet. My colleague said that it's very, very slow.

I have FTK 4.0 installed in C volume together with Processing engine, while Database is on other hard drive and Temp in on SSD disk.

What can be problem here?

Thank you in advance .

What can be problem here?

Almost anything.

Check that the system is reasonably OK. Check system logs – does anything scream 'system problem'? Is memory OK? (No bank that has failed on you?) Do basic diagnostics. Check everything that's running apart from FTK –does it run heavy, and do you really need it running?

And are you running according to AD recommendations? If not, you better know why.

Then, profile the system as it is running, to see what the system is doing, and what resources, if any, are maxed out. If any are maxed out, say, like a hard drive being utilized 100%, or memory being almost full, or CPU cores running flat out, that may be a clue to where your system bottlenecks are.

The Task Manager will tell you at least part of that, although usually have to dig deeper.

Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Performance Monitor can help you collect additional details, but here's where things get technical.

However … it takes a bit of Windows and tech know-how. If you have it, fine. If you don't, you may need someone who does, and who preferrably can sit down with your system.

There are some material on MSDN about Performance Monitoring, but it may be dry reading if you're in a hurry. Youtube has a lot of material mainly related to games, but some of it shows basic tool usage and interpretation, and may be useful for that reason.

(Added of course, your problem may be FTK, but I'll leave that analysis for the FTK experts …)

I have checked all of that, nothing apears to be problem. I have 32gb ram and it is used only 5gb, CPUs work max. to 10% and only disk where database is located is fully busy. I have fresh instalation on Windows 7 ultimate.
And i forgot to mention that processing on evidence file is done on other machine, then case is archived and attached on current machine.
