Encase Imager SystemCacheControl Error 0x5. Access is denied

Post Posted: Feb 20, 19 21:25

For our students in our lab, users are in Active Directory. No students have local admin credentials. I am trying to open Guidance Software EnCase® Imager version by dragging and dropping to a .bat file which contains:
cmd /min /C "set __COMPAT_LAYER=RUNASINVOKER && start "" %1"

So in other words bypassing User Account Control (UAC). The program starts but with the below error dialog box:
"Software\Guidance Software\EnCase\SystemCacheControl" Error 0x5. Access is denied

Any suggestions on how to fix or get around this? I've read about using runas with the /savecred option or creating a task that upon login elevates the credentials to the local admin.

FWIW Access FTKImager opens just fine this way.
