Hello everyone, this is my first time posting. I'm new to digital forensics, as I'm finishing up my Master's degree in this field and am working on my final project. I have run into a snag and was hoping for some direction on how to proceed.

On my Windows 10 laptop, I am working with the personal use version of the Genymotion Android emulator to investigate the local storage locations of any artifacts related to the "myQ" mobile app. This app is made by the Chamberlain Group and is used to control garage door openers from your smart phone. If I can create artifacts on the virtual phone, I plan to use the adb pull technique to extract a logical dump of the virtual phones contents and investigate from there.

After testing with two different AVDs (a Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy S9), I am unable to find the "myQ" app on the virtual Google Play store. It simply does not show up when I search for it. I ensured that both virtual devices are running a version of Android that is compatible with the app (Chamberlain claims it works for Android 7 and higher). My personal phone is a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 8, and the myQ app is installed and working on that. However, I don't have the luxury of using a dummy physical phone for testing, so I am limited to rooted virtual devices for this project.

Is it possible that certain apps are not available on the version of Google Play that runs from emulated devices? I can't find any information about this online. Thanks in advance.

I do not know the specific steps you would take, but you could research "side loading" the myQ .APK file onto the virtualized Android device using the Android Debugging Bridge.

Thanks for the reply, that's basically what I did and it happened to work. I was able to download the myQ .apk file and then drag and drop it into the Genymotion emulator. Seems to have done the trick.
