I need a ZIF style connector to access the drive on what I am told is a 5th generation Ipod. If someone could loan or direct me to where I could purchase one, it would be appreciated.

RJ,

Are you connecting directly to the drive or via the case's connector?

Directly to the drive.

That being the case, you can connect the drive to a standard size IDE cable using an adapter similar to the one linked to below.

Or, for a lot less $$, you could use something like the following to connect with which looks a lot more professional.

Remember though, if this is an actual investigation and not just a matter of data retrieval, you want to ensure that the drive is not being written to. Depending on the version of "Forensic Boot CD" and hardware combination you use, you very well could end up writing to that drive without knowing it.

Thanks for the reply but this drive is much smaller than 1.8". I can post pics here if you like as it is very small, somewhere around .9".

That sounds like the iPod might be a "Nano".

Could you post photos or possibly the model number of the drive?

The actual case is black, no model number and the drive is a Toshiba Modeal MK3008GAL. I don't see a way here to upload photos except with a URL. If you send me your email address, I can send you some pics.

Nanos don't have hd .

They are flash based

5th gen are the videos. I know there's a way to set the ipod in "disk mode" but I don't think that would work (no way of write protect)

Well RJ, I'm wondering if you found what you need. The link below could be it.

http//www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6.cgi?action=Showitem&id=ID246940&partno=00509&search=ATA&rsite=g.usbide&rcode=

I got that by googling "Toshiba MK3008GAL" and then getting the drive specifications. After that, I googled "USB ATA cable" and went from there.

I hope that helps.
