Anyone have a recommendation for the best hardware solution to acquire cell phone images? Some phones have SIM cards, some don't, all the cables are different etc.

Is there a good acquisition kit that covers "most" phones?

Thanks

Bill

There are a full range of devices on the market and also available from each respective manufacturer. In the US a product that I am aware is fairly popular where you are is produce a range of devices

- UME-36Pro
- UME-36Pro PPU
- UME-24
- UME-24 PPU

These are available from http//www.cellebrite.com/.

It is perhaps worth noting that as manufacturers design their products for different markets eg Asia-Pacific, EMEA and so on, the memory mapping and protocols to get to the data are different for the handset supplied to those areas. You may think it a good idea to select your device used for extraction and harvesting of data based on the market-specific region of the cell phone under examination.

We use FTS by Radio Tactics for SIM/USIM acquisition, and .XRY for phone acquisition. We also have Paraben as a 'just in case', but rarely if ever, use it.

There is a list of forensic hardware on http//www.computer-forensics.co.uk/computer-forensics-forums/showthread.php?t=10

I hope that helps?
