Cyber Crime Investigator - Greater Manchester Police

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Cyber Crime Support Team to contribute to the creation of a new area of capability to support the fight against organised crime in Greater Manchester. The role will be the pivotal link between the Regional Cyber Crime Unit, National Cyber Crime Unit and the Force Cyber investigation capabilities as part of a National Cyber Crime network.

Within GMP’s Cyber Crime Support Team (CCST) we are creating a fit for purpose investigative capability to assist and support serious crime investigation and neighbourhood policing. The CCST has responsibility for conducting investigations and operations into serious incidents of network based organised criminal activity and also provide support to colleagues across the force who are dealing with Cyber enabled criminality. You will detect Cyber Crime; gather and distribute relevant and quality intelligence, provide technical advice and assistance to officers engaged in the investigation of Cyber Crime and produce evidence in a form which is admissible in Court.

The team are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and creative individual with responsibility to deliver a dedicated specialist investigative service through the collection, preservation, extraction of digital information in a forensically sound manner. You will be expected to own and deliver an investigative strategy and extract, analyse and present digital data.

The individual will be involved in the development of the CCST and will be an integral part of the investigation team. The role will involve investigation of cyber dependent and cyber enabled crime as part of the team and will include attendance at crime scenes and house searches of suspects. They will assist with interviews and have a broad understanding of the subject matter. Self-development will be key to the role along will the development of colleagues. Part of the role will be the preparation and presentation of educational inputs to Police Officers and staff and the wider public including industry and educational establishments. The Unit is very much in its infancy and the continued development of it will be based on a team approach where all members bring value, ideas and implementation to enable the capability of the team to flourish.
