I would like some advice from people all over the world but most importantly from in the UK. Im currently in university about to complete my first year in Computer Networks. I hold various other certifications in particualr from Microsoft. My chosen field to work in will eventually be Computer Forensics - even if i dont make it at first.

My plan is to graduate with a good degree from my uni and progress to a Masters program at a "very good" uni here in the Uk - right now im looking at Kings College and Glasgow. Is this wise? Should i instead be focusing on a forensics degree first up and forgetting a post-graduate degree or am i on the right track?

I have started self-learning all i can about the field as i have the following books
File Systems Forensic Analysis
Computer Forensics Principles and Practices

Another question i would like to ask is how good would it be to follow the Security+ cert from Comptia?

Thanks!

Hi Zimbo

Sorry you bumped.

I'm not really experienced enough to answer your question but I can help with why you have a lack of responses.

There are alot of similar questions asked in the Getting Started section of the forum and even though they wont be directly relevant to your case I think most of what you ask can be found in there.

I get the feeling of the experienced guys in here that if you consider becoming a forensics examiner you need the skills to look for the answers and details, and as most of the answers are in the forum its a case of look and you shall find. )

Happy hunting.

A lot of us can't answer UK specific questions either. Not at all familar with Kings or any other UK school. Not that we don't want to help, just can't. Unless you're working, I don't see advantage in staying in school for a Msc. IT is the kind of field that you need to go back to school about every ten years anyway, so it isn't like you're giving up on school. If you really want forensics, the field will have matured a lot in ten years.

Zimbo that is what I did, as I've mentioned before on this forum I got my honours degree and then went onto a Masters at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

Having the masters certainly did help with the job hunting although lots of companies like to see if you have any Professional Qualifications such as the EnCase 1 and 2.
