Viber Database Analysis. (Android Artefacts)

Post Posted: Apr 20, 17 00:53

For my final year project at University, I have created a simple application in Python which will analyse Viber SQLite database from an Android dump and sort it into readable format. The user is given CSV, Text, and HTML previews of the conversations.

The program also offers case management functionaility in terms of assigning case names, investigators names etc to the log files. Once the database is analysed chat analysis can be performed using existing word lists to identify word patterns. If the invesigator does not have a wordlist already, the program has a built in text editor to create one.

It is hosted on my Git at: github.com/preeny95/Fi...ar-Project if anybody would like to test and leave some feedback. The repo contains the source code and a self-contained executable for ease of use. It is currently only supported on Windows too (Sorry Linux and OSX!)

There currently is no user guide but in the next couple of days it will be finished and added to the repo if people want to keep tabs.

I havent looked into the iOS artefacts for Viber, the databases may be similar and work for the program if somebody would like to test and confirm. My deadline is in 5 days so there wont be many changes before then, I fully intend to continue the project afterwards however and want to fully incorpoate ADB to ease the Android dump and fully support iOS. Once this is complete I will be expanding to other applications such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Any feedback is more than welcome!!
