I know this has been covered in the past, however the situation I find myself in differs slightly from previous posts.

I often image windows machines remotely. That is to say after sending out a collection drive (contents FTK imager) I log into the remote machine with LogMeIn. After getting the user to plug in the collection drive, I then execute the collection software and we all go off for coffee until completion.

My question is; apart from using dd is there a neat way to collect a Mac (Air and/or MacBook Pro) remotely in the same way? I have previously used dd on the odd occasions we have been asked to collect a Mac however there are limitations (principally the lack of a progress indication so I know how long my coffee break should last).

I would dearly like to use FTK command line though have singularly failed to get it working when 'stand alone' from the collection drive.

Any thoughts?
