On Wednesday I did a number of phones and everything worked. Today I come in, do several phones, but now when I attempt to open any of the completed phones in Physical Analyzer I either get an unknown error or the file opens, says reading content and then nothing appears.

As an example, I did a physical via a microsd card and copy the data over to the USB drive I've been utilizing. I go to open the ufd file, Physical Analyzer comes up, shows the device at the top, says reading content at the bottom and then nothing appears. If I go into memory images all the bin files are there.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Physical Analyzer with the same results.

Anyone run into this issue before? It would appear I lost a lot of work. My license has expired so I can't contact Cellebrite for support until my department renews and no idea when that will happen.

Cellebrite recently announced a bug that will reportedly cause Physical Analyzer—and a few other Cellebrite products—to stop decoding data as of January 5th, 2018.

They have a light hotfix, which you can use to perform an in-place update if your license expired in February 2017 or later. I suggest that you check out the MyCellebrite portal and/or contact Cellebrite support for further information.

Thank you so much for this information!! I was losing my mind thinking the data was corrupted! Have 30 phones to get through and losing work done on a number of them was not in the cards!

You have a great opportunity right now to make it happen, don't you?

Just to make it clear to all, the fix is available to anyone using UFED PA, even if your license has expired so that you can continue using your expired old PA version (although you are missing lots of data available from new supported applications and new application versions).

Best regards,
Ron

Haha you are definitely correct! To confirm what others have said, the license was transferred to my Cellebrite account and I was able to download it from there. Hotfix worked flawlessly and I am back in business.

Thanks all!

So the logical action is to say Thank you Cellebrite! Expired licenses you get normally nothing.

Kudos to Cellebrite for doing the right thing.

My suggestion to fellow forensicators would be to contact the software developer when they encounter a showstopper even if their maintenance expired. If there is a major issue with the software, a software company that cares about its customers would most likely take care of you—regardless of the status of your maintenance contract. I know we would.
