The Role

To carry out all operational case work including initial estimates and image processing tasks leading to the production of evidential statements & DVDs. To receive, return, transfer items submitted for forensic examination in line with company standard operating procedures. This is a dual role with 60% focus on technician and 40% on submission officer.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Organise your own day to day casework activities in order to ensure that cases are carried out efficiently, to the required standards and cost, in accordance with good work practise and quality systems.
• Interrogate and acquire imagery following best forensic practices.
• Clarify and process imagery.
• Produce court presentation media including DVDs and stills.
• Review of colleagues technician tasks to ensure quality and maintain standards.
• Handle exhibits in accordance with evidential rules and technological safeguards to ensure the integrity of each case.
• Compile, collate and produce Jury Bundles when required.
• Liaise with customers in order to keep them abreast with progression of their cases.
• Review and keep abreast of appropriate improvements in technology.
• Consider areas for improvement in the role or processes that will have a positive impact on quality and effectiveness.
• Scene reconstructions/filming of defendants.
• Photography of objects for comparison.
• Provide court testimony upon request.
• Coordinate the receipt, return and transfer of items submitted for forensic examination, ensuring chain of custody and item integrity is held throughout the case life at Eurofins Forensic Services in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
• Set up the case files (both electronic and physical) as part of the submission procedure and enter onto the case management system (CLIMS).
• Proactively complete general office duties including but not limited to filing, archiving and ordering of supplies.

Required Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills

• Basic knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and the work that Eurofins Forensic Services undertake.
• Good understanding of the UK legislation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
• Knowledge of court procedure and etiquette of an expert witness, disclosure and continuity.
• Make decisions within Standard Operating Procedures and company policies.
• Ensure quality processes are followed.

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have three years continuous residency in the UK. Criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance. This role may in addition require random alcohol/drug screening.
