Digital Forensic Reference Data Sets

Post Posted: Apr 10, 19 10:59

Good Afternoon,

We are currently working towards ISO 17025 accreditation for analysis of digital devices and it has been suggested there is a UK equivalent to NIST for reference data sets.

Does anyone know who this could be?

I have found a list on Forensic Focus but I was wondering whether anyone else who is currently undergoing the accreditation process has found data sets which the United Kingdom Accreditation Service would consider suitable.

Thanks in advance.

You may be referring to CAST.

The Centre for Applied Science and Technology was a part of the Home Office but its functions transferred from the Home Office to the Ministry of Defence in 2018. One part of CAST's work was on digital forensics and an output from that was a reference hard disk containing pseudo random data to assist forces seeking accreditation for disk imaging. After an initial run of producing physical artefacts, the process used was published so that anybody could use a similar approach to create reference media.

CAST reference disk preparation

This work was done to assist the NPCC Digital Forensics portfolio. More recently, effort has been put into developing a national, phone 'kiosk' validation pack to assist forces looking to accredit this area.
