Assistant Director, Digital Forensics - Cardiff/Edinburgh

Post Posted: May 15, 19 16:00

This role offers the opportunity for a senior Digital Forensics professional to develop and implement the digital forensics strategy to be used across varied and complex investigations of national importance.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is one of the world’s top competition and consumers agencies. We investigate and take enforcement action where necessary to protect consumers, both within and outside the UK and to ensure markets work well for everybody. Previous cases have included taking enforcement action against drug firms accused of over-charging the NHS, investigating online ticket resale platforms over concerns they don’t give customers all the information they should, and carrying out a major study into the care homes industry. What we do really matters and makes a difference to people’s lives.

The Digital Forensics and Intelligence Service is a team of highly skilled professionals who bring their expertise to the investigation, collation, processing and analysis of digital material to support the investigation and enforcement work of the CMA.

The Assistant Director role is a senior role carrying significant responsibility and autonomy to develop, promote and implement the digital forensic strategy. You will lead one of two Digital Forensics Teams in providing exceptional digital forensic, OSINT and eDiscovery tasks to CMA case teams, including managing your own caseload, in support of their investigations/projects. With guidance from the Director, you will implement the agreed CMA Digital Forensics Strategy across a portfolio of cases and projects, and you will be part of the management team of the Digital Forensics and Intelligence Service, with a focus on people development and team delivery of exceptional digital forensic services.

Please note if you are successful and wish to be based in any of the devolved Nations offices then the position would require frequent travel to London.

To be considered you must be able to evidence:

Significant experience in leading a team of digital forensic investigators
Experience leading the digital forensic strand of an investigation in terms of advising on how investigators can best use the digital evidence available to them and delivering an agreed solution
Understanding of the ISO and related standards for digital forensic investigations
Experience of the use of digital forensic investigation tools (FTK, X-Ways, Axiom, Cellebrite, Nuix) or similar

The CMA is a hugely rewarding and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so.

In return we offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee well-being programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.
