An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of Assistant Digital Forensic Analyst within the Kent and Essex Digital Forensics Unit. This vacancy is based at Essex HQ, Chelmsford.

Digital devices and information communication technology are present in almost every investigation the Police Service undertakes. These range from complex corporate computer networks and high capacity server/workstations, to mobile phone handsets, games consoles, digital CCTV systems and satellite navigation.

This role is to provide administrative and technical support to Digital Forensic Analysts in the digital evidence recovery process. This includes exhibit handling and recording to ensure continuity and integrity; initial automated triage work; imaging exhibits’ hard drives to create forensically identical copies for analysis; managing and house-keeping the digital storage; assisting investigators with viewing recovered data, and conducting some limited analytical work.

This position would be an ideal developmental role for someone wishing to take the first step on a career path in the field of digital forensics and would equip the candidate with a solid grounding which is necessary in the role of Digital Forensic Analyst.

Outside of the forensic caseload, you will be required to provide advice and guidance to police officers and staff in connection with digital evidence and the investigation of internet-related crime.

You must be able to demonstrate technical ability, including knowledge of computer hardware, software, and PC architecture.

Ideally, you will also have knowledge of operating systems and principles of data storage.

To balance these technical attributes, you will need good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. This also includes the ability to deal tactfully with enquires and advise staff appropriately. Ideally you will be able to work with minimal supervision, managing competing demands.

You should be able to work within the strict procedures of an ISO 17025 accredited environment, and display attention to detail with a methodical approach to solving problems. The ability to work under pressure within a team to meet strict deadlines is essential.

This recruitment process consists of 3 stages, which includes a technical test.

In this role you will be dealing with highly sensitive and potentially distressing information for which you will require emotional resilience due to the nature of case content and images encountered.

This post requires vetting to Security Clearance level.

It is planned that weekend working on a 1 in 4 basis will be introduced later in 2019; however at the moment the requirement is Mon-Fri 0800-1700 cover.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Chris Hartnup-Hoolachan for further information regarding the role on 01622 654796 or [email protected].
