I have been trying to install WinHex, was wondering if anyone who has recently purchased WinHex has experience with the BYOD installation, and can guide me? I have not heard from tech support.

I received an email from Cleverbridge with a URL to generate my license key, and it wants me to "copy and paste the ID of your preferred key device"

It then says "to select a key device and find out its ID and associated drive letter, please hold the Ctrl key and click the version number in the upper right hand corner of the main menu window in the current (!) version of the application."

Until I complete this step, I cannot generate a license key and move onto the next step.

Thank you,

Rory

So? Start WinHex. There will be a version number in upper right hand corner. Hold down Ctrl when you click on it. Not sure how they can explain it any simpler…

"copy and paste the ID of your preferred key device"

you need a device that will store your license key - USB stick is normally a good option.

It then says "to select a key device and find out its ID and associated drive letter, please hold the Ctrl key and click the version number in the upper right hand corner of the main menu window in the current (!) version of the application."

Insert the USB into your machine, open WinHex, right-click the version number in the upper right corner, and select the USB to display its ID.

Once you have done the above, generate your license key and paste it onto the USB. WinHex should recognise this as your BYOD every time you open it (as long as it is plugged into your machine).

RESOLVED!

Thank you for your replies. I had tried as directed, but the failure on my part was not running it as an admin - that was causing an 'error' instead of showing the available devices to generate the key code. Thankfully WinHex tech support helped me figure out my mistake.
