Good afternoon,

Does anyone have an EnCase v6 license they'd be interested in selling?

I've shifted from FTK to EnCase for several reasons, not the least of which is Access Data's ongoing licensing and support costs. I just received a quote from Guidance and found something similar - $600 tacked on to my initial purchase of a license to cover service and support for the first year. You'd think, hope, that support and service would be included in the initial price.

Thank you.

After Kovar, I'd be interested in an EnCase v6 license as well. If anyone has one please send me a PM.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Encase is the same deal on that subject. If you have the full version, which includes EFS, PDE and the other options, the maintenance for non LE is 1,200 per year.

Do these charges for service/support/maintenance represent good value? Interested to hear opinions (and apologies for hijacking the thread further…)

IMHO, I think the value is there relative to EnCase itself. There are many updates throughout the year.

Neutrino is a whole different story. Updates are few and far between and the number of phones supported is very limited.

Hope that helps.

Depends upon what you mean by value. I believe that such updates are essential, in part because with almost every minor release of many of these packages (I won't name names), there are usually a couple of gotchas than either require you to revert to an older version to perform a specific task or upgrade to a newer release.

In addition, with new OSs, mail systems, file formats and different file systems becoming more common, the upgrades frequently allow you to work with technology which was not supported in earlier versions.

Greetings,

To continue to hijack my own thread….

I don't mind paying for updates that add new value to the product. However, it does bother me to need to pay an additional fee for bug fixes and technical support to work around issues in the product in the first year.

I'd still love to get a v5 or v6 license if someone has one they're not using….

Guidance Software has donated a copy of Encase v6.0 to a non-profit organization that I work with. The donation was for auction/sale and is going up for auction within the next few days. Please contact me and I can provide you more information! Perfect timing for all!
