What tools does everyone out there use to examine cell phones? We have Cell Phone Seizure from Paraben and I am losing faith in that product fast. I'll leave out the specifics because I do not want this thread to turn into an unproductive vendor bashing thread.

Thanks for the advice. Any thoughts on LG phones?

LG phones are difficult, some models are supported by XRY from msab.com but thats a very expensive package. The LG software available at wowlg.com may help but I have yet to examine an LG without a lot of manual transcription and photographing.

I had been considering attending a Paraben Cell Phone Seminar in September, but wanted to see if their software supported LG phones, before I signed up. I spoke with a very helpful guy in tech support who advised that as of that time, it did not. That discussion was about 3 or 4 weeks ago. He said that it was in the works and promised to give me a heads up when that capability became available.

For SIM card analysis I use the Radio Tactics system. It combines a great method with some solid easy to use kit all in a nice handy box. Bit pricy though.

For examiniation of the phone memory I tend to use Oxygen for Nokia and a variety of other toolkits for others.

With new phones all the time its a bit of a moving goalpost!

They have now release a new version that does support LG.

For SIM cards, SIMCON is a great tool (and lets you read deleted SMS)

Available at www.simcon.no and free for law enforcement !

All you need to use ist is a PC/SC compatible card reader.

I know that some data might not be on the SIM card, but it still does quite a lot of the work…

Hope this helps

If the STATES were as up to date in the forensic world as Europe and Asia we would be ripping the SIM's and using that data.. As it stands over here most of our phones on the CDMA networks (Verizon being the biggie) do not use SIM cards… All the Multimedia phones use MicroSD cards or a derivative of such. I mean just to get your data from your old phone to the new one requires a Tech guy on the newer phones.

BTW..I did attend PARABEN's cell phone training and ahve thier software. The Big issue with Cell phones is that you better stay up to date on your Software subscription or you will quickly loose the ability to do the work the software is for. If you figure everyone gets a new phone every two years…In less then 3 years you need new cables and new software… YUK!!
