Ladies and gentlemen
Has anyone had success identifying IMEI or other traceable user information from a cell video file. I have a client that wants to drop off an extracted video that we have to try to locate the person who recorded the video. If I pull the video into a HEX editor is there anything in the header of the file that could lead me to user information or is it just device manufacturer and encoding?
Douglas the problem with this type of investigation is that the video stored on the handset may have got there via Bluetooth and that were it the case you recovered a make/model from the file what happens if the sending party has an identical make/model to the receiving party?
The 3GPP file format doesn't specify either IMEI or make/model and neither are required elements to be recorded

Thanks for the quick response.
I had a feeling that was going to be the case. There was some initial analysis done to the file that they determined the handset to be Nokia and I was hoping that there was an outside chance that in the 3GPP file format there was some indication or meta data that would give us some clues.
It's a case of an abduction ransom video and the local authorities (overseas) do not have the interest or resources to delve into it more than some initial reports and file analysis.
