Tableau are on the verge of releasing some new imaging software … Tableau Imager

They claim

… is capable of delivering astounding HDD imaging speeds.

I'm wondering how this will work. I'm guessing some kind of interface with the HDD firmware? I'm also wondering if it will work with other hardware.

It seems that it will capture in E01.

Also of note is their new testing software … Tableau testing

As always read the important notes that come with it.

Hmmm… a (presumably) Windows based software solution which will dramatically cut imaging speeds? Not saying it can't be done but would certainly like to see if real-world tests back up their 'astounding' imaging speeds claim!

Acquisition speed is always going to be limited by the one thing you have no control over - the performance of the drive you're acquiring.

I am definitely interested in this product if it does all they say. I only have one machine in my "lab" right now, so imaging really holds me up in getting my work done.

From what I've read, they optimise the interface between the system and their tableau write blocking device.

It wouldn't surprise me if they obtain great speeds, they built the hardware and would therefore understand how to make the best use of it.

The TD1 hardware imager is capable of some suprising speeds, I think it is obviously something they have focused on. But as they say the proof of the pudding…
