Hi all

I'm currently a second year undergraduate studying Forensic Computing and I'm trying to secure an industrial placement for 2010-2011.

After googling for I don't know how long and really getting nowhere fast, I was wondering if anyone had any information/tips/advice/hints for helping me find a placement.

I don't mind working in the IT sector with a larger company doing project work, but I'd really like to try to find a placement related to forensics.

I've contacted a lot of forensic companies via the phone and passed on my CV, but most of them have already filled their vacancies or I'm too late to apply.

Is it really too late to apply?

Any information anyone can provide would be super appreciated.

I can post my CV if that's any use to anyone.

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,

Im also in my second year, studying in Liverpool. Many of the companies in the North West havent selected their placements yet and perhaps have only recently began reading and taking CV's. So its probably not too late.

However, this is something you should have been looking into before your second year even started.

Just keep trying, email every company large and small (with a personalised email, not a generic one). You could also try getting in touch with your area HTCU (High Tech Crime Unit). Many of them take placements, these placements will be unpaid but its the experience that counts.

Happy Hunting.

Trust me when I say I'd been looking for a long time before now.

Before my second year started I had a agreed a placement within a HTCU, however they are now saying they might not be able to continue with it.

It's not being ruled out, just being made unlikely.

I've spent the last few days contacting all sorts of companies and applying for anything I could find.

I shall post back if I have any success.
