Hello Adnan,

If the user has enabled the PIN, then there is not much you can read from the SIM. Minor stuff like the preferred language can still be read.

If you can get the correct PIN, or it is disabled, then most files in the SIM become readable. Still not everything though, for example you can never read the Secret Key Ki (not to be confused with cipher key Kc, which can be read).

If you want to create duplicate SIMs, then forensic tools may not be the best solution, as they are designed not to be able to write to the SIM, so as to be considered forensically sound. The SIM card manufacturers themselves provide tools, e.g. G&D, Orga, Gemplus, etc.

If you do want forensically sound copies, have a look at http//www.radio-tactics.com/forensic_sim_detail.htm. I've never used this one, but it seems to make SIM card copies.

Hope this helps,
Alfred, UK.

I have used the Radio Tactics Forensic SIM Toolkit (FST) hardware/software. It allows 4 copies to be made of a SIM card - Master, Prosecution, Defence and an Access Card. The Master, Prosecution and Defense cards are all copies of the SIM which can be read using a SIM reader and all information extracted without altering the original SIM card's data. The Access Card is a further SIM copy which duplicates all the SIM information but does not allow network access. You can then place the Access Card in the original handset and complete a handset examination without fear of new incoming calls or messages.
It is a very good piece of kit but does have some limitations - it is expensive (around £15 per pack of cards) and the Access Cards do not work in all handsets.
Hope this is of use,
Steve

Hi D

I am from Singapore and new to this forum. Glad that there are so much information here… This is just simply a great site… lol

Back to the topic of Sim forensic, so am I right to say that once the PIN and PUK is not attainable from the suspect, we are unable to proceed any further? cry

Cheerz
