Jonathan's thread about Helix3 reminded me of another great free tool which went commercial. Is anyone using Illok or has heard about it since it stopped being free for law enforcement?

The screenshots look impressive and I would have loved to give it a try, but looking at the prices in their online-shop made me close the window pretty fast

http//www.perlustro.com/purchase/store

e.g.
PST-OST Recovery - $1380
Developer Interface - $1810

The first should be something around $100 and the 2nd for free. It's an SDK, right?

As a former programmer, there's no way that the developer interface should be free. It's a lot of work to open a front end to your software in a robust way.

It's the $550 to support EO1 format that made me baulk. And I do all my work in DD/Raw, but still, that's a lot to support such a commonly used format.

As an aside, I used ILook for 3 years when it was free to LE. The first version that I used (I think version 7) was fantastic, with a clean logical interface. Then the next version came out which was redone in .net and it was more powerful, but the interface was awful. Good luck to them getting some decent market share. It would be sad for all Elliot's hard work to go to waste just because the Treasury doesn't want to fund it any more.

@Patrick4n6 Sorry but I disagree concerning the developer-interface… also a being a developer myself ;). As far as I can see the developer-interface let's you develop mini-apps. I doubt that every programmer of mini-apps will keep them in their closet for own usage. Therefore the mini-apps, perhaps even collected by the producers of I-Look, will enrich I-Look and make it more appealing for potential buyers - thus it should be available for free. Actually "free" is a bit rich since you would have had to buy I-Look at a "please ask"-price.
I totally agree with your statement the E01-support being too expensive. There are a few libraries available which are even open source AND in it-forensics E01 really isn't something you would call a feature it is a must have.

Cheers )
