Is the DVD-R taken from a CCTV security system or a digital camera? If its CCTV - does the manufacturer not have a viewer available for download? Try searching for the make and model of the CCTV device on Google. I've found that many CCTV security products have bespoke software viewers, and you need to get their software to play the file. Or is there viewing software copied onto the DVD?

Or if its from a digital video/camera - what make & model is it….. There might be a viewer on its manufacturers website.

If you can identify a header/file signature, we might be able to help more. Can you copy any data into a post?

Hello Andy,
thank you for immediate reply.
The support is an Hard Disk that have been deleted (format) with the DVR.
The model is a PDR-400 of Linin and I use FTK for recovering deleted files after acquisition of support (an HD of 160 GB).
After recovery FTK not recognize the files undeleted.
How can I view thats?

Thank you again.

I don't know whether this will help but when faed with moving image file I cannot get to play in anything else I always try a little freeware tool called VLC8. This has its own codec library built in a I find will play just about any of these types of files.

Might not help but could be worth a go as it is free to download.

I agree with mark, the best video file viewer is VLC.

Has the drive definately had data deleted? Or is it the case that you just cannot view any file structure? Most of these CCTV systems have a bespoke file system, and/or an obscure manner of saving .avi files, for example I dealt with one recenty that saved its data as big endian (motion) .jpegs. I could not see any file structure using any of the COTS to hand. With EnCase, it appeared as 'unused disk area'.
