Dear All,
Thought that you all may like to know about a book that I came across while surfing the net.
I can't think of a similar book in this genre and it may be useful and certainly very interesting for any programmers out there.

Best Regards

P.S. I had a problem viewing this link on mozilla - but it worked fine in another browser.

Looks like an interesting read.

On the subject of technical/computer books, there are many I would like to buy, or even request for Xmas presents; however for me most are cost prohibitive (and I haven’t got the cheek to ask for one for Christmas). I understand that they represent the author’s hard work, but for this particular book - $69 is a bit steep. The theme is constant throughout computing ($49.99. $59.99 and even $79.99). Why? When most best sellers only cost $19.99 in hardback.

What I would like is some 'open source' books 🙂

Or am I being just a tightwad?

Lol Jamie - I love it . Spamming and self promotion - credibility rating = zero.

Sorry guys; I didn't realise the author was on a self promotion crusade.
I would imagine everyone would have picked up on the book then without me joining in the noise.
😳

Coming from India, I don't think it will turn up at my local Borders anytime soon.
It is steep and a risk to buy sight unseen.

Agree with the ebook idea - thank goodness for open source.
But then people have to earn a living also. It's a dillema.

Regards
Brian C

I know that this is a bit of an old thread but I thought that you might be amused to know that the publisher's price for this book is 240 Rupees. That is about $5.5 or £3.

I didn't want to give my CC info and asked for a Fed Ex shipment which I would gladly pay extra for. He declined saying that I could mail him the money or give him a CC.

I'll pass

The last time I was in Calcutta, India (December 2004), I actually made an effort at some of the larger bookstores to find this book. I didn't have nay luck.

But as luck would have it today, this book is actually available on amazon for 20.00 (with a 4 to 6 week delivery), or from a used book seller for about 40.00. I ordered one of them…. (guess which one).

Amazon is amazing…

But is it good value?

I bought mine from Amazon.co.uk for £2.99 so at that price the answer must be "Yes", I guess. However, the English is strange, the content dated (lots of concern regarding floppies very little about NTFS) and a great deal off topic for the normal forensic examiner (chapters about learning to program in C under DOS, lots about DOS int 21 and BIOS int 13, a tutorial on the essential DOS commands etc).

As I came to forensics after 25 years as a programmer, I found it quite interesting particularly from an historic point of view but it is not, I expect, of great interest to most on this forum.
