You may be familiar with the organisation F3 (First Forensic Forum). Every year, at their annual conference, they give an award to a digital forensics professional as voted by their peers.
Yesterday I received an email message in which the following was stated
"This is a nominations request for the F3 award. As usual we are looking for an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the world of Digital Forensics…
"This year there will be a few changes to the way the nominations will be handled. The award subcommittee will review all the nominations and only put forward those that they consider appropriate for the membership to vote on the F3 website. This may mean that no-one is put forward or it may mean that only one person is put forward in which case no voting is necessary."
I fail to see a viable reason for this. After several years of leaving the nominations open and allowing the F3 membership to vote on the worthiness of the recipient, why have they suddenly changed their minds? This leaves the system open to all kinds of abuse in my opinion.
Like another forensics awards ceremony where the host wins all the prizes? D (that was a joke, btw)
