Belkasoft Offers Free and Easy Way to Save Facebook Information

Belkasoft Offers Free and Easy Way to Save Facebook Information

Belkasoft has released Facebook Profile Saver, a free tool to capture information publicly available in Facebook profiles. This tiny tool is aimed at computer forensic and security specialists who need to automate the downloading of Facebook pages for offline analysis. A local copy of public Facebook pages may be required for investigation activities, and can be presented as court evidence. Performing this task manually would be extremely time-consuming, so we came up with a tool to automate the routine...

Making Facebook Data Available for Offline Analysis

Belkasoft Facebook Profile Saver can only do two things:

- Save publicly available photo albums (including comments and descriptions);

-Save the user's wall contents (text and images only, but no videos or other stuff).

The information is saved locally, and an HTML report is generated. The HTML report is self-containing: it can be printed and displayed without an Internet connection. The report maintains the original links should you need to review the original album page, photo page or wall post at a later time.

Dealing with Restricted Pages

With many Facebook users restricting access to their pages to registered Facebook users, Belkasoft Facebook Profile Saver can automatically sign in to Facebook on your behalf using any valid credentials. Belkasoft Facebook Profile Saver will only ask for Facebook login credentials if a restricted page is encountered.

Free Download

Belkasoft Facebook Profile Saver is absolutely free. Visit http://forensic.belkasoft.com/en/facebook_profile_saver to download.

1. Does anyoine have this tool working?

Has anyone tried this tool yet?

I've tried on two different workstations running Win7 (.net framework 4.0), and it just keeps crashing while collecting data.

Also the button to browse to a target directory doesn't work.

Is it just me?

2. Re: Does anyoine have this tool working?

We have fixed a few potential problems yesterday so please redownload and try once more.

Please redownload the tool again. We actually fixed it the same day as the problem was found at some of our customers computers. Now it should work perfectly.

I've just tried it on Windows 7 32- and 64-bit and have (partially) gotten it to work. My default browser is Google Chrome, but I think it uses Internet Explorer (which is slightly annoying). So, if you need to sign into Facebook, then you have to sign in on IE. And, I'm pretty sure you have to sign in because it adds an app, fbcrawler. It's a little buggie. For example, I had to close and re-start the program because it said I wasn't logged into Facebook (though, I was), and as soon as I restarted it, it worked. That being said, the only part that I could get to work was downloading the albums. Though it would appear to scan the wall, it would only download and save (at most) one of the posts. I also had to play around with the URL I directed it to (sometimes it worked if I put in the direct link and sometimes it worked if I put in the full url-that is, facebook.com/username/?ref=browse_search) depending on how I got to the page. So, I'm not sure exactly what element makes it work when it works, and why exactly it doesn't work when it doesn't. That being said, this is my experience after only trying it out for a very brief time.
