New MOBILedit 4.1 Features Free iCloud Analyzer, App Downgrade, WebKit, iOS 11

Compelson Labs has just released its MOBILedit Forensic Express version 4.1 with over 300 new features, functions and improvements plus many new application analyzers making Forensic Express an important tool for your lab.

New version includes an entirely new module - iCloud Analyzer, which is free with update to all current users. There is also a new Application Downgrade feature, eliminating the need to root Android phones in order to perform advanced applications analysis. The newest iOS 11 is already supported, even though it is in beta, not only because some phones you need to investigate may already have it, but also because you won't need to wait for your other tools to provide support for it.

iCloud Extractor and Analyzer

Now you can analyze backups of iOS devices stored in iCloud. Don't have the phone? Don't worry, you don't need it. With this module you no longer need to have the iPhone present to analyze its data. iCloud Analyzer will locate all iOS backups in the cloud and let you choose which ones you want to extract from, analyze and create reports for. Finding the evidence you need is the ultimate goal, which is why a whole new way to find data has been added - directly from the cloud. All versions of iOS are supported, including two-factor authentication. Complete parsing of low level phone backups provides maximum data such as data from applications, including deleted data recovery.

Applications Downgrade

With this new feature you can downgrade certain applications to their older versions and unlock data by side-stepping the increased security measures used in their respective newer versions. This function allows you perform advanced applications analysis of hidden data, even deleted data, that would otherwise be impossible to find. This function comes with the added benefit of no longer needing to root the phone to extract and analyze app data.

New and updated application analyzers

New Skype version is supported, many analyzers updated and these apps were added: Dropbox Paper, Nubia Notepad, Sygic: GPS Navigace, Do It Later, Swisscom IO, Secret Folder, Periscope, Prisma, MeowChat, Litter Penguin Web Browser, Puffin Web Browser, Next Browser, HipChat, FlashFox Browser, Boat Browser, Amazon Browser, Baidu Browser, Vaulty, KeepSafe, Hide It Pro, KakaoTalk.

What else is new?

Entirely new WebKit data analysis, documents analysis, hack and physical acquisition for LG and MTK, improved support for import of UFD and UFDR files from UFED. Reports are now even nicer, extractions are faster, the product is more stable and many application analyzers are updated. There are many other improvements - you can get a detailed list here.

1. Using MOBILEdit for vulnerability analysis

I'm not he standard use case for the MOBILEdit package, but it has changed the way I work. My job is to find all of the security vulnerabilities in a mobile application and report back to the developers. Using MOBILdit has reduced the time I spend collecting information from my test devices from 2 days down to about 3 hours. Then I can spend that time analyzing the app, or save the client a little money.

The new application analysis changes is GOLD, especially for apps that I am testing that make use of the Android sharing infrastructure. You'd be shocked to learn how many apps save their private keys in the local config files, and MOBILEdit lets you navigate with to the file and view it in plain text, no matter the platform.

Awesome update folks! Very impressed.
